However after a 0-2 win at Port Vale,  It meant that all Bolton needed was a point in their next game to go up.

The Whites did not disappoint in their next fixture as they collected all 3 points with a well deserved and comfortable home display against Peterborough.

David Wheater scored once again as his side saw Peterborough off after also scoring in his previous game at Port Vale.

The 30 year old Centre half who has been brilliant for the Whites has been named as Bolton’s player of the season for 2016/17 after being a solid player and key to the team.

Jem Karacan and Adam Le Fondre were also amongst the goals on the last day of the season in Bolton’s 3-0 win.

Bolton finished the season on 86 points, 4 points clear of third place Scunthorpe who overtaken Fleetwood on goal difference, ending on a high after a successful year.
